Curriculum Information

Prepare to write the American Water Works Association (OWWA) Cross Connection Control Specialist certification exam. Certification involves 40 hours of theory and practical training leading to OWWA Certification. 

Students who successfully complete this program will receive three point five (3.5) Ministry of the Environment, Director-Approved, Continuing Education Units.

Course Content

In this five-day course, participants will focus on remaining aware of the many modifications to standards, directives, codes, products, and test methods in relation to backflow prevention.

  • Backflow causes and control
  • Cross-connection
  • Hazard classification and control
  • Maintenance and testing procedures

This course is designed specifically for licensed plumbers, water operators, steamfitters, engineers, or individuals involved in the water distribution industry.

PLEASE NOTE: The OWWA charges $125 for certification for a five-year certificate. This charge is included in our course fees.

Refunds

All sessions canceled within 10 business days of the delivery start date will receive a 50% refund. If canceled within 5 business days of the start date, no refund will be applied. All refunds will be issued by cheque – please allow 2 – 4 weeks processing time.

Instructors

OWWA Cross Control Officer Mike Haslam

Michael has over 27 years of experience teaching Apprenticeship Plumbing and Cross Connection Control. He is a recently retired Professor in the School of Engineering & Technology at Mohawk College and he was instrumental in bringing the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) Cross Connection Control course to the province. Over 2,500 students have been through this course. Michael, on behalf of MCE, delivers the Cross Connection course for numerous industry clients both locally and within the province. Michael is a Licensed Plumber, Gas Fitter, Welder, Well Technician 4, and a Cross Connection Control Tester/Specialist. He is the Cross Control Officer for the OWWA.

Cross Connection Control Specialist/Instructor Seth Crawford

Seth Crawford is a licensed Plumber with over 20 years in the trade serving the residential and commercial sectors. During which time he has specialized in: Rural Water Systems, Hydronic Heating Systems, and Water Treatment Systems. He is a licensed Cross Connection Control Specialist/Instructor. Seth has been teaching as a professor at Mohawk College in the Apprenticeship training programs for nearly 7 years and has been coordinating those programs for the past 2 years. Seth is a member of the Curriculum Delivery Advisory Committee for Plumbing and Steamfitting Apprenticeship in Ontario.

  • $1,600.00 plus HST for five days of training

  • $1,675.00 for course fees and 5-day parking pass
